The primary change in this second phase is that validators will now be responsible for sending block attestations, confirming the validity of new blocks before they are added to the blockchain. This adds new responsibilities for validators and enhanced security measures for the network.
Block attestations have been utilized in various PoS-based blockchains. For instance, validators in Polkadot (DOT) also participate in attestations to verify new blocks. Polkadot’s governance enables token holders to influence validator commissions, while validators primarily confirm and validate the network’s state via attestations, similar to the upgrades StarkNet is implementing.
Additionally, a fair and transparent commission increase feature will be introduced to enhance economic incentives for participants.
Voting Process:
STRK holders will vote on this upgrade in two phases:
– A test vote scheduled for March 10–15 to ensure system functionality.
– An official vote set for March 20–30 for holders to make the final decision.
If approved, Staking Phase 2 could increase demand for STRK, as more validators and delegators may wish to participate in staking. Increased staking participation could reduce STRK’s circulating supply, potentially driving up the token’s price, currently at $0.20, with a 24-hour trading volume of $34,700,272, as per Coinmarketcap.
