SEC’s Crypto Task Force to Host Roundtable Discussions

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Crypto Task Force will host four more roundtable discussions this spring, focusing on topics like tokenization and decentralized finance (DeFi).

Spring Sprint Toward Crypto Clarity

The first roundtable discussion kicked off the SEC’s “Spring Sprint Toward Crypto Clarity” and occurred last Friday in Washington, D.C. A dozen industry lawyers discussed the security status of tokens.

Commissioner Hester Peirce, the task force’s leader, expressed, “The Crypto Task Force roundtables are an opportunity for us to hear a lively discussion among experts about what the regulatory issues are and what the Commission can do to solve them.”

Shift in Regulatory Approach

These discussions exemplify the SEC’s significant overhaul in its approach to crypto regulation. Moving away from the “regulation by enforcement” method used by former Chair Gary Gensler, new leaders, including Peirce and Acting Chair Mark Uyeda, are aiming to enhance the agency’s relationship with the crypto industry and clarify regulatory guidelines.

Upcoming Roundtable Schedule

  • April 11: Between a Block and a Hard Place: Tailoring Regulation for Crypto Trading
  • April 25: Crypto Custody
  • May 12: Tokenization
  • June 6: Decentralized Finance

All discussions will occur in Washington, D.C., and will be livestreamed.
