Kenya’s Inflation Update
NAIROBI (Reuters) – Kenya’s inflation was at 3.8% year-on-year in June, the same level as the previous month, according to the statistics office’s report on Monday.
Inflation was primarily driven by the rise in prices of items such as food and non-alcoholic beverages, transport, and housing, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics noted in a statement.
Monthly inflation stood at 0.5% in June, consistent with the previous month.
The central bank aims to keep Kenya’s inflation within the 2.5% to 7.5% range in the medium term.
In June, the bank reduced its benchmark lending rate by 25 basis points to 9.75%, stating it aimed to provide further support to the economy.
