Major Cryptocurrency Theft Revealed
23pds, Chief Security Officer (CISO) of crypto security firm SlowMist, disclosed a significant cryptocurrency theft case that was uncovered following an emergency call made during the night.
Overview
According to gathered information, approximately 50 million yuan (around 6.9 million USD) worth of crypto assets were stolen overnight using a cold wallet purchased by an investor on TikTok. It was reported that the private key of this wallet was compromised while it was still being created. After the theft, the digital assets were swiftly washed off a platform called Huiwang, erasing all traces.
Warning to Investors
Following the incident, 23pds cautioned investors about counterfeit hardware wallets. He stated that 99% of devices marketed online as “new, unopened” or under “special campaign” could be fake and may have been tampered with beforehand. The security expert highlighted that investors should only purchase cold wallets through official and reputable channels.
Scams on Social Media
Many listings on social media present wallets for sale at slightly below the value of the assets they contain, with almost all such listings being traps for unsuspecting investors.
