Bank of New York Mellon’s Bitcoin ETF Holdings
The Bank of New York Mellon (BK) has over $13 million in Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
According to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Bank of New York Mellon holds $13,280,431 in Bitcoin ETFs.
Breakdown of Holdings
- WisdomTree Bitcoin Fund (BTCW): 115,108 shares valued at approximately $11.87 million.
- BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT): 25,309 shares valued at about $1.4 million.
Other Banking Institutions
Several other U.S. banks are also investing in BTC ETFs:
– JPMorgan Chase: Holds nearly $1 million in BTC ETF shares.
– Goldman Sachs: Holds a substantial $1.63 billion in Bitcoin ETF shares and $196.3 million in Ethereum (ETH) ETF shares.
In 2024, the SEC approved BTC and ETH-based ETFs, enabling investors to gain exposure to these leading digital assets without purchasing them directly.
In December, Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon remarked that regulatory changes are necessary for the bank to consider holding and trading digital currencies directly:
> “At the moment, as a regulated banking institution, we’re not allowed to own a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin as a principal. We give our clients advice around a variety of these technologies and these issues and will continue to do that, but for the moment our ability to act in these markets is extremely limited from a regulatory perspective.”
