In 2024, the crypto market experienced significant hacks. According to Phoenix Group, DMM Bitcoin, WazirX: India, and Munchables were among the top projects suffering major losses, highlighting the evolution of cybercriminal tactics targeting crypto vulnerabilities.

As a result of these breaches, iconic crypto projects collectively lost billions. The affected platforms and investors now face challenges in recovering the stolen funds, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced measures against cybercrime.

DMM Bitcoin: $305M Lost in 2024 Hacks

DMM Bitcoin was the most affected, suffering a loss of $305M from a hack on May 31 due to a compromised private key.

Following this, WazirX: India lost $234.9M in a hack on July 18, where phishing via a multisig wallet was employed to steal users’ funds.

Munchables experienced a $62.5M loss from a storage exploit on March 26. Meanwhile, BtcTurk lost $54M following a private key compromise on June 22, and Radiant Capital lost $53M due to an access control exploit on October 16.

Thala: The Smallest Loss Among the Top 10 Exploits

Among other losses, Hedgey suffered $44.7M from a flashloan exploit on April 16. BingX was next with a $43.3M loss after a hot wallet exploit on September 20.

A reentrancy exploit on Penpie resulted in a $27M theft on September 3. On February 18, FixedFloat lost $26.1M from a private key compromise. Lastly, Thala Labs faced a $25.5M loss from a liquidity pool exploit on November 15.
