Canada Stocks Close Lower

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Utilities, and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.01%.

Best Performers

  • Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD): rose 5.42% (1.29 points) to trade at 25.11 at the close.
  • K92 Mining Inc (TSX:KNT): added 4.59% (0.42 points) to end at 9.57.
  • Lundin Mining Corporation (TSX:LUN): up 4.23% (0.60 points) to 14.77 in late trade.

Worst Performers

  • Innergex Renewable Energy Inc (TSX:INE): fell 4.32% (0.41 points) to trade at 9.09.
  • Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP (TSX:BEP_u): declined 4.10% (1.55 points) to end at 36.25.
  • Linamar Corporation (TSX:LNR): down 3.76% (2.31 points) to 59.17.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with 559 to 382, and 100 ended unchanged.

Shares in K92 Mining Inc (TSX:KNT) rose to 52-week highs, increasing 4.59% (0.42) to 9.57.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.21% to 11.64.

Commodities

  • Gold Futures for December delivery were up 1.04% (28.60) to $2,784.50 a troy ounce.
  • Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.01% (0.01) to $67.39 a barrel.
  • The January Brent oil contract fell 0.08% (0.06) to trade at $70.94 a barrel.

Currency Exchange

  • CAD/USD was unchanged at 0.22% to 0.72.
  • CAD/EUR remained unchanged at 0.27% to 0.66.
  • The US Dollar Index Futures were down 0.01% at 104.17.
