Canto Blockchain Outage After Callisto Upgrade
Canto, a Layer-1 blockchain based on Cosmos, faced an outage following its “Callisto” upgrade on Saturday, which occurred around 18:43 UTC, as reported by block explorers.
Since the outage, the blockchain has been unable to process new transactions. By Sunday afternoon, Canto’s X account acknowledged the issue, attributing the downtime to “an issue with consensus.” The team announced that an upgrade to address the problem would take place on Monday at 12:00 UTC, reassuring users that their funds are safe.
Despite announcing plans to migrate to Ethereum last year and transition to a Layer-2 network, Canto later decided to stay as a Layer-1 blockchain.
In January 2023, Canto experienced a surge in trading activity but has since slipped to become the 78th largest blockchain by total value locked (TVL), according to DefiLlama data.
