Investor Morale in Euro Zone Declines

(Reuters) – Investor morale in the euro zone fell for a third consecutive month in September, according to a survey released on Monday. The morale dropped to its lowest level since January due to dissatisfaction with the economy, particularly in Germany.

The Sentix index for the euro zone decreased to -15.4 points for September from -13.9 in August. Analysts had anticipated a recovery to -12.5 points this month.

Conducted from Sept. 5-9 among 1,142 investors, the survey assessed both current satisfaction and future expectations. Notably, the euro zone index on expectations slightly recovered to -8.0 points from -8.8 in August. Conversely, the current situation score for the region dropped to -22.5 from -19.0 in August.

Sentix stated, “The political and economic chaos in Germany is a heavy burden on the entire euro zone.” They added that the only hope for investors lies in the prospect of a supportive monetary policy.

Investor morale in Germany, Europe’s largest economy, also decreased, falling to -34.7 in September from -31.1 in August. The index measuring the current situation in Germany declined to -48.0 from -42.8 in August.
