Spacecoin to Launch First Decentralized Internet Satellite

Investing.com – Spacecoin is set to launch its first decentralized internet satellite, CTC-0, on December 21 as part of a SpaceX rideshare mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base aboard the Falcon 9 rocket, as detailed in a press release.

Mission Overview

The mission involves a collaboration between SpaceX and Exolaunch and will deploy satellites for 22 different customers into space.

Decentralized Internet Access

Spacecoin aims to provide low-orbit nanosatellites for internet access, marking the initial step towards offering decentralized connectivity to underserved regions globally, especially in emerging markets.

The December launch will conduct a pilot test with partners in Africa and South Asia, leading up to more satellite launches and tests in 2025. As per the company roadmap, Spacecoin aims for service launch in Q4 2025.

Use of Creditcoin Blockchain

The service utilizes the Creditcoin blockchain to leverage its credit features. As of Thursday, the Creditcoin token traded at approximately $1.6, showing a significant 139% increase in 2024, with a market cap of around $644 million.

Direct-to-Cell Technology

Spacecoin's technology will allow direct connection to users’ phones, eliminating the necessity for ground infrastructure. However, regulatory approvals for the service remain unclear.

The internet service will function under the blockchain-based Spacechain protocol, promoting decentralization. The estimated monthly operational cost is projected to be around $1 to $2 per user in emerging markets and will comply with 3GPP industry standards, adopting an open-source framework.

Additionally, Elon Musk’s Starlink has received FCC clearance to offer direct-to-phone services for T-Mobile users, reinforcing competition in the satellite internet domain.
