Florida's Crypto Investments

Florida's Chief Financial Officer, Jimmy Patronis, stated in a CNBC interview that the state holds approximately $800 million in crypto-related investments.

Patronis mentioned that this amount could increase if former President Donald Trump is re-elected. He advocated for directing a portion of state retirement system funds into cryptocurrency.

Florida is not alone in its cryptocurrency investments; the State of Wisconsin Investment Board and Jersey City, New Jersey, are also notable examples. The State of Wisconsin Investment Board reported holding $163 million in spot bitcoin ETFs earlier this year.

Echoing Trump

Patronis referenced Trump’s suggestion for the U.S. to accumulate a stockpile of cryptocurrency, particularly bitcoin. He expressed concerns over the Chinese Communist Party’s growing involvement in cryptocurrency, which could impact global control over such emerging currencies.

He noted Trump's idea of establishing a crypto presidential advisory council and creating a national bitcoin stockpile from government-held cryptocurrency. Patronis emphasized Florida’s need for a hedge against what he perceives as the federal government's overreach through a centralized currency.
