Fortnite’s Crypto-Themed Season Boosts Meme Coin

Fortnite, the massively popular battle royale game, continues to push its crypto-themed storyline forward this season. The latest narrative twist, shared with tens of millions of social media followers this weekend, sparked a brief surge in the value of a Solana meme coin.

Dill Bits (DB) Surge

Dill Bits (DB), an unofficial Solana token inspired by the game’s fictional “crypto coin,” saw a market cap spike from about $107,000 to a peak of $4.75 million on Saturday, corresponding to $0.00475 per coin. This represents an over 4,300% increase in just minutes. However, this spike was short-lived as whale traders cashed in on the surge.

> Big Dill might say “INVEST IN 💲DILLBITS” – we say… maybe hold off on that.
>
> But you SHOULD pick them up as you come across them in vaults. Exchange Dill Bits during your match for premium items at a black market!

Currently, DB is priced around $0.00075, with a market cap of approximately $750,000 amid wider crypto market turmoil. Despite the decline, DB’s value remains significantly higher than its early weekend prices, having fallen steadily since its creation in February.

DB was launched by an unknown creator alongside Fortnite’s current in-game content season, Lawless, which features a pickle character named Big Dill, who is portrayed as a rapper, bank robber, and faux crypto coin creator.

Spike Origins

Although DB on Solana is not an official crypto token of Fortnite creator Epic Games, its spike was fueled by Epic’s marketing efforts surrounding the season. On Saturday, official Fortnite social media accounts shared a faux news report about Big Dill and the in-game Dill Bits currency, which can be earned during matches and spent on items in “black market” locations on the game map, alluding to the long-standing connection between crypto and dark web marketplaces.

In the marketing video, a news anchor discusses Big Dill being “on the run for allegedly participating in a crypto rug pull,” stating he “launched a crypto meme coin called Dill Bits.”

> Fortnite’s entire new season is about crypto rug pulling.
>
> Congrats guys, you got mass adoption lmao

A skeptical character in the video suggests that people should spend their Dill Bits in black markets, followed by the anchor advising, “Please do not purchase this coin. Do not take financial advice from a pickle.”

Fortnite has a massive following across social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where the video was posted. The game’s humorous take on crypto industry issues resonated with participants in the crypto gaming industry.
