France Examines Polymarket Compliance

PARIS (Reuters) – France's gambling regulator announced it is investigating whether Polymarket, the platform where a French trader placed a successful multi-million dollar bet on Donald Trump’s presidential election victory, complies with French laws.

"We are currently examining its operation as well as its compliance with French legislation on gambling," said ANJ spokesperson Elsa Trochet-Mace in an emailed statement.

Polymarket declined to comment.

The offshore, crypto-fueled exchange revealed last month that a trader who placed multiple bets on a Trump victory was a French national. Polymarket stated it investigated the individual, who has extensive trading experience and a background in financial services, concluding that the trader made bets based on "personal views of the election.'"

Additionally, Polymarket found no evidence that the user manipulated, or attempted to manipulate, the market.
