Giuliani Ordered to Surrender Valuables

By Andrew Goudsward

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A U.S. judge has ordered Rudy Giuliani to relinquish control of a luxury New York apartment, jewelry, and other assets to two Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea' "Shaye" Moss. This order aims to help them collect nearly $146 million from Giuliani in a defamation case.

In 2022, a federal jury in Washington, D.C., found Giuliani, a former personal lawyer to Donald Trump, guilty of defaming Freeman and Moss by wrongfully accusing them of election fraud during the 2020 election, which Joe Biden won.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman instructed Giuliani to place the Manhattan apartment, cash accounts, sports memorabilia, high-end watches, and other valuables into receivership overseen by Freeman and Moss within seven days.

Aaron Nathan, the lawyer representing the two women, expressed pride that they would begin receiving compensation for Giuliani's actions.

A spokesperson for Giuliani did not immediately provide comment on the order.

Freeman and Moss were also granted court permission to pursue approximately $2 million in unpaid legal fees that Giuliani claims he is owed from the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee, related to post-election activities.

Giuliani attempted to delay the ruling regarding legal fees until after the upcoming election between Trump and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, concerned about misleading implications of suing Trump.

Judge Liman postponed the ruling on whether Freeman and Moss could take possession of Giuliani’s Palm Beach condo and three New York Yankees World Series rings claimed by his son, Andrew.

Since the defamation judgment, Giuliani declared bankruptcy, but the case was dismissed in August, permitting Freeman and Moss to initiate collection processes. Giuliani is appealing the decision.

The former New York mayor has been disbarred and faces criminal charges in Georgia and Arizona associated with Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election. He has pleaded not guilty and maintains his innocence.
