Much has been discussed regarding Bitcoin’s (BTC) recent challenges. As of March 25, the cryptocurrency has underperformed expectations, still $20,000 below its recent highs.
However, Bitcoin’s success is best understood from a broader perspective, highlighting its significant growth over time. Finbold chose to analyze its performance over the past five years, particularly focusing on a $5,000 investment made on March 25, 2020.
Bitcoin investment appreciation over five years
Currently, Bitcoin trades at $88,649, a drop of 7.77% year-to-date (YTD), a rise of 25.62% in the past year, and an incredible increase of over 65,000% since 2014.
On March 25, 2020 – exactly five years ago – BTC was valued at approximately $6,681, following a decline from 2019 highs of above $10,000.
This means Bitcoin’s value surged by nearly $82,000 (1226.88%) over 60 months, averaging a daily gain of $44.91, though this growth has come with considerable volatility.
Therefore, a $5,000 investment in 2020 would equate to almost one whole Bitcoin, rising to a total value of $66,354, yielding a profit of $61,354.
