Indonesia’s Central Bank on Rupiah Exchange Rate
JAKARTA (Reuters) – Indonesia’s central bank will ensure that the rupiah’s exchange rate against the U.S. dollar reflects fundamental values through mechanisms like market intervention, according to a senior official on Monday.
Erwin Gunawan Hutapea, Bank Indonesia’s head of monetary management, made these comments prior to Monday’s market opening. The rupiah and the stock market faced pressure following news of protests in Jakarta on Friday.
