Cosmos Labs Rebrands from Interchain Labs
Interchain Labs, the team from the Interchain Foundation’s acquisition of Skip Protocol, has rebranded as Cosmos Labs. This change signifies their role as the main engineering, product, and growth arm for the Cosmos ecosystem.
The rebranding is a reaffirmation of their commitment to the idea that purpose-built, customizable blockchains linked by secure interoperability are essential for advancing on-chain commerce. With over 200 production chains using the Cosmos Stack and a monthly average transfer volume exceeding $1 billion among chains using IBC, the name change aims to enhance visibility within the industry, among developers, and customers.
Background
In late 2024, the Interchain Foundation integrated product and growth efforts by acquiring Skip Protocol and forming Interchain Labs. Now operating under the Cosmos Labs banner, they will focus on product delivery, engineering, marketing, and the expansion of the Cosmos Stack, while the Foundation manages governance and treasury matters.
Key Product Progress
Cosmos Labs highlights significant product developments since the transition:
– IBC Eureka: A light-client-enabled path for extending IBC to Ethereum, designed to lower costs and improve security for cross-ecosystem transfers.
– Cosmos SDK v0.53: A non-breaking update for smoother developer upgrades.
– Development of a canonical Cosmos EVM framework to facilitate easier access for EVM-based projects to Cosmos tools.
Skip:Go, Skip’s cross-chain API, will remain integrated within the Cosmos Stack. The Cosmos SDK, IBC, CometBFT, and Cosmos EVM will all continue to be developed by Cosmos Labs, with the Cosmos GitHub remaining central for code.
Going forward, product updates will be communicated by Cosmos Labs while governance matters will be handled by the Interchain Foundation. The team, described as globally distributed and mission-driven, is actively recruiting engineers and professionals to advance interoperable blockchains.
The rebranding signifies a strategic focus on enhancing the brand’s appeal to enterprise customers and developer teams, aiming to boost real-world applications of on-chain technology.
Future success will be measured by adoption rates of the Cosmos Stack, liquidity through IBC and Eureka, and the effectiveness of SDK upgrades in facilitating project development.
