Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris stated in her Democratic National Convention speech that as president she will aim to pass a middle-class tax cut.
Harris criticized her opponent, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, for not being concerned about the middle class. She said, “Instead of the Trump tax hike we will pass a middle-class tax cut that will benefit more than 100 million Americans,” without providing further details.
Harris argued that Trump’s plan for tariffs will result in price increases, asserting that he has threatened to use tariffs for what he calls fair trade relations with other countries.
She described building the middle class as “a defining goal of her presidency” and promised to create an “opportunity economy” where everyone can compete and succeed.
Last week, Harris outlined proposals to cut taxes for most Americans, ban “price gouging” by grocers, and increase affordable housing. However, her agenda may face resistance from both corporations and the U.S. Congress, which previously rejected similar proposals from Democratic U.S. President Joe Biden.
Harris aims to contrast her economic policies, particularly on tariffs and taxes, with those of her opponent.
