MetaMask Community Awaits Airdrop Hope

For ages now, members of the crypto community, especially those involved when MetaMask was the primary wallet for Ethereum services, have anticipated an airdrop from the company.

Many have given up and moved on, even ceasing to use MetaMask due to its numerous issues. Without commitments for an airdrop, there was little incentive to continue using the platform.

However, a glimmer of hope has emerged. Joseph Lubin, founder of MetaMask’s parent company Consensys, hinted at a potential token launch for its web3 protocols, igniting hopes that MetaMask’s wallet service could be among them.

Lubin’s Comments Renew Community Hopes

Sharplink Gaming (SBET) recently suffered a 75% overnight drop after claims circulated about a complete sale of shares following an SEC filing. This caused panic among investors and led to a significant stock decline. Lubin clarified that the suggested share sell-off did not occur as reported.

He also engaged in discussions about how users could take advantage of the dip. During this, a user pressed Lubin about the possibility of a MetaMask token. Lubin responded positively, stating there is a “short and medium-term plan/strategy” that involves the protocolization of current products and initiatives. He emphasized the need for tokens in Web3 protocols, listing LINEA as the first to emerge, with more to follow and all being synergistic.

Lubin on Next Protocol to Get Token After LINEA

After Lubin announced LINEA as the first to receive a token, speculations arose about which protocol might follow. One user suggested Infura, but Lubin indicated that the Decentralized Infrastructure Network (DIN) is likely next. He described DIN as an expansion of Infura, necessary for a robust decentralized protocol ecosystem.

Lubin stated, “DIN will probably be the next one, but don’t hold me to that.” He elaborated on DIN being instrumental for MetaMask’s scaling to cover the entire decentralized ecosystem, arguing that it would provide unparalleled performance across a wider array of protocols.

He envisions DIN enabling Web3 to possess its own infrastructure, likening it to a tokenized version of foundational internet protocols like TCP/IP and HTTP, enhancing community ownership of essential infrastructures.
