Drake's X Account Hacked to Promote Scam Memecoin
Canadian superstar Drake's X account was seemingly hacked on Saturday night, promoting a Solana memecoin based on his cartoon "alter ego."
Drake, born Aubrey Drake Graham, reposted and quoted a post by a since-deleted X account promoting a memecoin reportedly called Anita, after his cartoon "alter ego" Anita Max Wynn, a character inspired by his love of gambling. Her name cleverly references the phrase "I need a max win."
False posts also claimed that the memecoin launched in partnership with Stake, Drake's preferred crypto betting platform. The fraudulent coin, "$ANITA," shares its name with the rapper's Anita Max Wynn Tour, marking Drake's return to Australia and New Zealand since 2017.
The memecoin, promoted to Drake's over 39 million X followers, experienced $5 million in trading volume before traders recognized its fraudulent nature and ceased purchases, according to DexScreener data. Ultimately, the posts were removed from Drake's account.
Drake's account falls among high-profile X accounts recently targeted by hackers. The Cardano Foundation's X account was also exploited last Sunday in a similar memecoin scam, yielding only a fraction of the trading volume of "$ANITA." Other notable victims include Cardi B, Doja Cat, and Metallica.
