U.S. Auto Safety Regulator Closes Evaluation of Fisker Ocean SUVs

(Reuters) – The U.S. auto safety regulator announced on Monday the closure of a preliminary evaluation regarding 7,745 Fisker (OTC:FSRNQ) Ocean SUVs. The investigation was related to the failure of these electric vehicles to shift into the park gear, prompting Fisker to issue recalls and implement a software update.

Earlier this year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) started investigating claims of unintended vehicle movement in approximately 4,000 of Fisker's 2023 Ocean electric SUVs. Complaints indicated difficulties in shifting into the park mode, raising concerns about potential inadvertent vehicle movement.

In response, the NHTSA revealed last month that Fisker is recalling 7,745 vehicles due to the increased risk of crashes or injuries related to rollaway incidents. The company addressed the issue by releasing a software upgrade termed "OS 2.0", which introduced an "Auto Vehicle Hold" feature. This enhancement prevents the vehicle from rolling due to gravity, thereby assisting in engaging both the park gear and the electronic parking brake, as stated by the NHTSA on Monday.
