Fisker Ocean SUV Probes Closed
(Reuters) – The U.S. auto safety regulator announced on Wednesday the closure of two investigations into Fisker (OTC:FSRNQ)’s Ocean SUVs regarding a door malfunction and brake performance issues, following recalls initiated by the electric vehicle startup to address these problems.
In April, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began a preliminary assessment of 6,781 Fisker cars produced in 2023 after receiving complaints from drivers who reported being unable to open the doors from inside or outside the vehicle.
Having filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, the EV company recalled specific Ocean models in June to rectify the door issue. The recall remedy involved inspecting all four doors and replacing the outer door handle if a defect was detected, according to an NHTSA notice.
Additionally, the NHTSA launched a separate inquiry in January regarding 7,745 Ocean models, following reports of a partial loss of regenerative braking on low traction surfaces, without providing driver alerts. The agency’s Office of Defects Investigation noted awareness of six minor crashes and one injury linked to this brake failure.
As of last week, the NHTSA stated that Fisker would recall 7,745 vehicles for unexpected regeneration braking reduction, which normally recaptures energy when slowing down to recharge the battery. The issue is being addressed through an over-the-air software update designed to improve the braking system’s adaptability to different driving conditions.
Fisker also disclosed recalls in June for thousands of cars across North America and Europe due to defective software and failure to meet safety regulations.
