Nvidia CEO Emphasizes China’s Importance
BEIJING (Reuters) – Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang stated that China is an essential market for Nvidia despite the U.S. imposing a ban on sales of its H20 artificial intelligence chips to the country.
“We hope to continue to cooperate with China,” Huang mentioned during a meeting with Ren Hongbin, the head of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, as reported by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
Vice Premier He Lifeng also welcomed Huang, indicating that China encourages more U.S. companies, including Nvidia, to further explore its market.
He characterized China as having vast potential for investment and said it has always been “fertile ground” for foreign enterprises seeking trade and investment opportunities.
Huang’s visit to Beijing was prompted by an invitation from a trade organization and coincides with new restrictions the U.S. has placed on shipments of Nvidia’s H20 datacentre GPUs, its only compliant AI chip for legal sales in China.
A Nvidia spokesperson confirmed that the company regularly meets with government leaders to discuss its products and technology, although no specific details on Huang’s agenda were provided.
The U.S. ban has led to uncertainties for Chinese internet companies that were still hoping to receive H20 deliveries by the year’s end.
