Vivek Ramaswamy’s Potential Departure from DOGE
Investing.com — Vivek Ramaswamy, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside Elon Musk, may leave the group before his tenure starts, according to Politico.
Ramaswamy plans to announce his campaign for Ohio Governor and could exit DOGE as soon as the end of January. Politico cites a source close to the situation.
Having briefly run for the Presidency, Ramaswamy was overlooked by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine for the Senate seat previously held by Vice President-elect JD Vance, with Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted being chosen instead.
Ramaswamy’s potential exit complicates DOGE’s ambition to achieve $2 trillion in government spending cuts by July 2026. Musk has downplayed this goal, suggesting that $1 trillion in cuts is more realistic.
While the agency has begun outlining its agenda, questions remain regarding its influence in the government, as final spending decisions lie with Congress.
Though Trump is expected to issue executive orders granting the group authority, the extent of its regulatory power is still uncertain.
Ramaswamy could not be reached for immediate comment.
