Missile Attack on Zaporizhzhia
KYIV (Reuters) – A Russian missile attack on Ukraine's southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia on Tuesday killed six people and injured at least 20 more, damaging critical infrastructure.
Ivan Fedorov, the regional governor, stated via the Telegram messaging app that the strike caused a fire. Authorities did not disclose details about the destroyed facility.
Before the missile strike, Fedorov and Ukraine's Air Force had announced a ballistic missile alert for the area.
Recently, Russia has intensified attacks in Zaporizhzhia, deploying highly destructive guided bombs that are difficult for Ukrainian forces to intercept.
The city, approximately 40 km (25 miles) from the frontline, serves as a vital logistical and industrial hub. Parts of the Zaporizhzhia region are under partial Russian occupation, and it houses Europe's largest nuclear power plant.
Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff to the Ukrainian president, emphasized the need for allies to enhance support in response to Russian assaults, stating, "Violence must be stopped by strong actions," on Telegram.
