Senate Vote on Trump’s Treasury Secretary Nominee

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate could vote to confirm Republican President Donald Trump’s nominee for treasury secretary, Scott Bessent, this weekend, according to Majority Leader John Thune on Thursday.

The Senate Finance Committee approved Bessent by a 16-11 vote on Tuesday, with two Democrats voting in favor.

Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate, but Thune has expressed concerns that Democrats are using procedural maneuvers to delay the approval of some of Trump’s more controversial picks, such as former Fox News host Pete Hegseth for defense secretary and vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the Department of Health and Human Services.
