SEOUL (Reuters) – South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul stated on Wednesday that President Yoon Suk Yeol's brief attempt to impose martial law limited communication with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's team and hindered political momentum between the two countries.

In a rare joint news conference aimed at foreign media, Cho and Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok sought to reassure Seoul's allies and calm market anxieties following the martial law attempt, which shocked the country and incited its most significant political crisis in decades.

Cho emphasized that Seoul had established a robust network and communication channels with Trump's campaign, reportedly stronger than those of any other nation, but noted that the martial law order undermined "political momentum" between both sides.

"It is true that there have been some disruptions with communication over the past two weeks due to this situation," Cho acknowledged.
