Italy's Stance on EU-Mercosur Trade Deal
ROME (Reuters) – Italy believes there are no conditions for signing off on a trade deal between the European Union and South America's Mercosur bloc, officials from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's office said on Thursday.
Rome's government asserts that a signature can only occur with appropriate safeguards and compensation.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Uruguay on Thursday in an effort to finalize a long-delayed trade deal, while France expressed concerns that the EU risks finalizing the agreement.
