Crypto Liquidations Exceed $1.5 Billion

Crypto liquidations surpassed $1.5 billion in the past 24 hours as Bitcoin's price fell from the $100,000 mark.

  • Nearly 514,400 traders experienced liquidations:
    • $1.38 billion in long positions
    • $136.7 million in short positions

Data from the crypto tracker Coinglass at 4:43 p.m. ET (21:43 UTC) indicates total liquidations for Bitcoin and Ethereum reached:
$163.4 million for Bitcoin
$204.7 million for Ethereum

Bitcoin’s price briefly dipped to $94,900 around 4:00 p.m. ET (21:00 UTC) but recovered to $97,395 at the time of publication, according to The Block.

Monday’s liquidations follow $1.1 billion in liquidations on December 5, marking the largest amount since December 2021. This event was attributed to significant holders experiencing a "leverage flush."

Bitcoin first surpassed $100,000 on December 4, achieving an all-time high of $103,679, following a significant rally after Donald Trump was elected as the 47th President of the United States.
