Navarro Appointed as Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he has selected Peter Navarro to be the senior counselor for trade and manufacturing.

Navarro previously served as the head of the newly created position of director of the White House National Trade Council during the first Trump administration.

> "During my First Term, few were more effective or tenacious than Peter in enforcing my two sacred rules, Buy American, Hire American," Trump stated in a Truth Social post announcing the nomination.

Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison in January after being convicted of two misdemeanor counts of contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena from a committee investigating the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol attack by Trump supporters.
