Trump Unveils Crypto Plan

Former President Donald Trump took to X to announce a plan aimed at positioning the U.S. as the leader in cryptocurrency.

In his post, the Republican nominee tagged World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance (DeFi) project that his sons have promoted. Trump stated, “This afternoon I’m laying out my plan to ensure that the United States will be the crypto capital of the planet,” and included the World Liberty Financial logo in his message.

Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump had previously hinted at an announcement related to cryptocurrency and DeFi. Their father has since sought to generate anticipation around the upcoming news.

However, just an hour before Trump’s post, a warning was issued on World Liberty Financial’s Telegram channel advising users to beware of scams. The warning cautioned, “We have been made aware of some ads circulating on Telegram claiming to be from us, offering fake airdrops or token sales. We are not doing any airdrops or selling any tokens at this time.”

Since speaking at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in July, Trump’s interest in attracting crypto-savvy voters has appeared to grow, alongside potential entrepreneurial ventures. NFT collections featuring Trump’s likeness have also been available since late 2022.

During the Bitcoin conference, Trump pledged to fire Gary Gensler, the chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, if elected in November. He further proposed to halt the U.S. from selling its Bitcoin holdings and create a “strategic bitcoin reserve.”

As of now, the specifics of the services that World Liberty Financial will provide or how Trump will be associated remain unclear.
