Turkish Finance Minister’s Commitment to Spending Discipline
(Reuters) – Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek affirmed on Tuesday that the country’s spending discipline will persist despite economic growth risks.
> “I can assure you, spending discipline will be maintained,” Simsek stated at an event hosted by the Atlantic Council during the IMF/World Bank meetings in Washington.
Simsek emphasized the existing spending controls and mentioned efforts to potentially cut non-discretionary spending.
He also noted that the current account deficit is expected to be lower than the program target, and inflation is likely to remain “well within” the program’s target band.
