Mt. Gox Cryptocurrency Wallet Transfers Large Amount of Bitcoin

A cryptocurrency wallet associated with the defunct exchange Mt. Gox transferred 32,371 bitcoin (worth $2.13 billion) to an unknown address today.

This significant transaction follows payouts made to creditors through the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken yesterday. Mt. Gox also sent about $2.8 billion in bitcoin to a new address yesterday. Large transfers from the Mt. Gox wallet often precede substantial bitcoin transfers to centralized exchanges for creditor payouts.

Additionally, Mt. Gox has begun sending Bitcoin to the crypto exchange Bitstamp, which announced it would distribute the funds “as soon as possible” after receipt. Today, the exchange received 2,237 BTC (valued at $147 million) moved to address 3QVD5, followed by another transfer of 382 BTC (around $25 million) to another address 3CgKH, both registered as belonging to Bitstamp.

Mt. Gox, launched in 2010, was a bitcoin exchange that collapsed after losing hundreds of thousands of bitcoins due to alleged thefts.

Meanwhile, the price of bitcoin is down nearly 1% on the day, according to The Block’s Bitcoin Price Page.
