FDIC Appoints Former Prosecutor to Monitor Cultural Changes

(Reuters) – The U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has announced the appointment of Carrie Cohen, a former federal prosecutor, to monitor its cultural transformation efforts aimed at addressing systemic sexual harassment and discrimination.

The appointment comes in response to a sexual harassment scandal that led to the resignation of FDIC chairman Martin Gruenberg earlier this year.

Currently working at Morrison Foerster, Cohen will oversee the implementation of an action plan initiated after a Wall Street Journal expose revealed a toxic, misogynistic environment among agency staff.

The Senate has yet to vote on President Joe Biden’s nominee to succeed Gruenberg, Christy Goldsmith Romero, currently serving on the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Cohen, co-chair of Morrison Foerster’s diversity, equity, and inclusion task force, has a strong background in addressing workplace cultural issues. She also has experience monitoring sexual harassment cases and was selected through an open bidding process by the FDIC board.
