U.S. House Committee Investigates FCC’s Denial of Starlink Subsidies
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A U.S. House committee announced on Monday that it is investigating the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) decision to deny SpaceX satellite internet unit Starlink a total of $885.5 million in rural broadband subsidies.
In December, the FCC reaffirmed its decision, stating that the choice affecting Elon Musk’s space company was based on Starlink’s inability to meet fundamental program requirements. Additionally, the FCC indicated that Starlink failed to demonstrate that it could deliver the promised service after SpaceX challenged the 2022 ruling.
House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, a Republican, has requested the FCC to provide documents regarding this decision by October 21.
