U.S. Navy Destroyers Defeat Houthi Attack in Gulf of Aden
CAIRO/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Two U.S. Navy destroyers escorting three merchant vessels through the Gulf of Aden successfully thwarted an attack by Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen, as reported by the U.S. military on Tuesday.
The Houthis launched multiple drones and a cruise missile during the ships' transit through the Gulf on Monday and Tuesday, according to U.S. Central Command's post on X.
CENTCOM stated, "The reckless attacks resulted in no injuries and no damage to any vessels, civilians, or U.S. Naval assets."
Earlier, a military spokesman for the Houthis claimed that the group had targeted three supply ships and two American destroyers accompanying them in the Gulf of Aden.
