U.S. Commerce Department Allocates $100 Million for AI in Semiconductor Development

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Commerce Department announced plans to award $100 million to enhance the use of artificial intelligence in creating sustainable semiconductor materials.

The department, which oversees $52.7 billion in U.S. chip manufacturing and research grants, aims to support universities, national laboratories, and the private sector. The funding will focus on developing AI-powered autonomous experimentation to streamline sustainable semiconductor manufacturing processes, ultimately aiming to minimize the time required to create new, less resource-intensive semiconductor materials.
