FAA Finalizes Drug and Alcohol Testing Rules for Foreign Repair Stations
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Monday that it has finalized rules mandating aviation-repair stations in foreign countries to implement drug and alcohol testing for employees who perform safety-sensitive maintenance functions for U.S. airlines.
The new regulation requires compliance by December 2027 and will affect approximately 977 repair stations located in 65 countries. The FAA stated that foreign governments or repair stations may apply for a waiver if they meet existing testing requirements.
