Support for Kamala Harris
By Kanishka Singh
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Venture capitalist Ben Horowitz announced he will make a “significant donation” to support Vice President Kamala Harris’ Democratic presidential campaign against former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election on Nov. 5.
Importance of the Donation
Horowitz, co-founder of the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, had previously supported Trump in July when Joe Biden was the Democratic candidate. Following a poor debate performance by Biden, Harris took the lead as the Democratic candidate.
Polls indicate that Trump had been gaining traction in battleground states, but the race has tightened since Harris entered.
Key Statements
Horowitz shared on X, “As I mentioned before, (his wife) Felicia and I have known Vice President Harris for over 10 years, and she has been a great friend to both of us during that time.”
He added, “As a result of our friendship, Felicia and I will be making a significant donation to entities supporting the Harris-Walz campaign,” although he did not disclose the donation amount or specific entities.
Horowitz also noted that his firm has not officially endorsed Harris as she has not provided a comprehensive tech policy platform. He expressed discontent with the Biden administration’s “exceptionally destructive” tech policies but remains optimistic after discussions with Harris and her team regarding potential tech policies.
Context
Harris’ campaign has notably outpaced Trump’s in fundraising, providing her with a substantial cash advantage as both campaigns launch advertising efforts in battleground states.
