Conference Bitcoin Afrique (CBA)
In April 2025, Bitcoiners from around the world will converge in Douala, Cameroon, for the Conference Bitcoin Afrique (CBA), a groundbreaking event focused on Bitcoin adoption in French-speaking African countries.
This isn’t just another crypto event; it aims to educate, empower, and connect the French-speaking Bitcoin community like never before.
With over 400 attendees expected in person and a digital reach surpassing 50,000 via platforms like Facebook, X, YouTube, and TikTok, this conference represents a significant milestone for Bitcoin adoption in French-speaking Africa.
The Franc CFA: A Legacy of Economic Dependence
To understand the rising traction of Bitcoin in French-speaking Africa, one must first consider the controversial Franc CFA, a colonial-era currency utilized by 14 African nations and controlled by the French Treasury.
For decades, this system has undermined economic sovereignty, imposed high inflation, and restricted monetary policy independence for millions.
Unlike their English-speaking counterparts, Africans in French-speaking nations are bound to a financial system prioritizing stability for France, hindering Africa’s economic growth. Bitcoin presents a viable alternative: an open, decentralized, inflation-resistant financial system that empowers individuals to control their wealth independently of centralized institutions or foreign influence. The CBA is devoted to demonstrating how Bitcoin can liberate these economic chains.
Why a French-only Bitcoin Conference?
Despite global Bitcoin adoption, French-speaking Africa is often overlooked in terms of Bitcoin conferences. Most major events and educational resources are primarily in English, leaving millions of French-speaking Africans sidelined from the global Bitcoin movement.
By making CBA a French-only conference, we’re breaking down language barriers that have long hindered Bitcoin education and networking opportunities. This event is a movement to position French-speaking Africa as a significant player in the global Bitcoin economy, offering businesses and Bitcoin advocates a unique opportunity to tap into this untapped market.
Why Bitcoin-Only?
While many crypto conferences include a mix of Bitcoin and various altcoins, CBA is strictly Bitcoin-only. Here are some reasons:
- Bitcoin is the only truly decentralized and censorship-resistant digital asset.
- It has the strongest network security and global adoption.
- It’s the best tool for financial sovereignty in Africa.
- It aligns with long-term wealth preservation instead of speculation.
The “crypto” narrative in Africa has been marred by scams and unreliable tokens. Many have lost money chasing hype, and it’s time to refocus on Bitcoin’s core mission: financial freedom and economic empowerment. At CBA, attendees will engage in real discussions and gain practical insights instead of being overwhelmed by dubious investment opportunities.
Previous Examples
This isn’t the first Bitcoin-only conference in the region; we draw inspiration from significant events:
- Dakar Bitcoin Days in Senegal, the first Bitcoin conference held in French on the continent, paved the way for accessible Bitcoin education.
- Bitcoin Mastermind in Benin, organized by Loic Kassamotto and Alphons Mehoume, along with Nourou’s events in Dakar, laid the groundwork for our goals.
- The African Bitcoin Conference has also been influential in providing benchmarks for our efforts.
With CBA, we aim to create a larger Bitcoin educational platform for the region to amplify our collective voice further.
In the long-term vision, we hope to take CBA to various French-speaking countries, expanding the reach and impact of Bitcoin education across Africa.
Why Douala, Cameroon?
Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, is a major trade hub and one of the most Bitcoin-active cities in the region.
Hosting CBA in Akwa, the city’s central business district, is strategic due to several factors:
- Accessibility: Douala is well-connected to other African cities and international locations.
- Growing Bitcoin Community: The city boasts a thriving Bitcoin scene with active P2P trading and businesses accepting Bitcoin.
- Strategic Location: Cameroon is centrally located within French-speaking Africa, making it an ideal venue for participants from West and Central Africa.
For global Bitcoin advocates, it’s a unique opportunity to witness firsthand how Bitcoin is reshaping lives in French-speaking Africa.
