Forgotten Runiverse Early Access Launch

The role-playing game Forgotten Runiverse has launched in early access on the Ronin Network, allowing users to master spells and earn rewards in an open fantasy world based on the Ethereum NFT collection, Forgotten Runes Wizard’s Cult.

This launch marks the culmination of three years of development and over 1 million hours of gameplay testing, as shared by Ronin Network, which the game recently migrated to from the Ethereum layer-2 Arbitrum.

> “We just launched the first true live service Web3 MMORPG. And it’s free,” said Bearsnake, the pseudonymous co-founder and COO of Forgotten Runes. “The world, storylines, and even NPCs are based on a blend of community lore and team.”

Moonlit Wilds

Now live after three playtests, Forgotten Runiverse opens with its first major content update, Moonlit Wilds. In Moonlit Wilds, players can:
– Access land plots
– Build new structures
– Craft and mint items
– Master 32 spells while embarking on quests

The launch follows the game’s most recent playtest, Crash the Runiverse, where users stressed the servers in preparation for the launch. Eligible users from that test, as well as previous playtests Eve of Memory and New Foundations, can claim allocations of Quanta, the game’s in-game currency.

Quanta and XP

Quanta will be used to claim the Forgotten Rune’s native token, XP, and other partner reward tokens during the token generation event. Users with unclaimed Quanta must do so by May 7, or remaining coins will be redistributed to players earning or buying Mana in-game.

The developers expect the early access period to last “a while,” emphasizing that building an MMO is complex. The full version will feature more polish, content, and completeness, moving towards their grand vision.

Console Development

Recently, the creators announced that Forgotten Runiverse is the first Web3 game approved for development across all major console platforms: Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo. Other blockchain games like Off the Grid and Moonray are in development on Xbox and PlayStation, but handle crypto elements differently than on PC.

Forgotten Runes previously received funding from Alexis Ohanian’s venture firm Seven Seven Six, assisting in building its world.

The early access launch coincides with Ronin Network NFTs going live on the OpenSea marketplace, further promoting the network’s commitment to opening up to more users and developers.
