Kevin Durant Regains Access to Bitcoin Account

NBA forward Kevin Durant has regained access to his bitcoin after being locked out of his Coinbase account for nearly a decade. During this period, the price of BTC rose over 17,700%.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong confirmed the account recovery on X, replying to a viral tweet about Durant’s situation. He stated, “We got this fixed. Account recovery complete.”

This recovery follows comments by Durant and his business partner, Rich Kleiman, at CNBC’s Game Plan conference. Kleiman noted the difficulties with access, mentioning, “It’s just a process we haven’t been able to figure out,” while also stating, “bitcoin keeps going up… so, I mean, it’s only benefited us.”

Durant initially bought bitcoin in 2016 after being introduced to it by his Golden State Warriors teammates, purchasing at an estimated price of $650 per coin when it traded between $360 and $1,000. Currently, bitcoin is priced near $116,000 according to CoinMarketCap. Both Durant and Kleiman have not disclosed the specifics of their holdings.

Additionally, Durant and Kleiman are investors in Coinbase and promote the platform through their media outlet, Boardroom. This incident highlights ongoing frustrations among some Coinbase users regarding account access and customer support, a point Armstrong acknowledged by stating the company is focusing on improving its support services.
